These are one of the most useful wings. Both the primary and secondary quills are used and they provide the wings for all the duns and olives and many other patterns including the Hares ear and Ginger quill. In fact they can be used for any pattern that requires a grey quill
The coverts can be used as hackle in spider patterns, a lovely alternative for snipe.
Starling feathers are fragile and need careful handling.
